C. And C. Laser Engineering is also known for its precision laser welding solutions in plastics. We offer excellent laser welding services for laser job work in plastics. There are numerous applications of laser welding in medical plastic appliances, white plastic parts used in household appliances and automotive plastic parts.
Generally, 808nm and 980nm semiconductor lasers are used for laser welding. However, the required absorption efficiency in laser welding applications in transparent and white plastics being on the high side, 1710nm semiconductor lasers and fiber lasers 2000nm have been successfully developed and used efficiently.
Applications using 1710NM Diode lasers – It is obvious that for most plastic products usage in Medical Industry, there is a requirement for laser welding of the highest precision. The traditional laser welding in transparent plastic material due to its low absorption efficiency cannot be applied because 90% of plastic parts used in the medical industry do not support laser absorbers because of their adverse effects on health. Ideally, lasers specifically developed to counter these issues are used and a 1710nm diode laser is the required dedicated laser.
The 1710nm Diode Laser is preferred in the medical industry for laser welding applications in plastics. The transparent and white plastics have a very higher absorption efficiency as compared to industrial laser wavelengths. Thus, 1710nm lasers offer excellent results as compared to the welding effect with the standard traditional laser welding at lower wavelengths.
Laser Welding of transparent/white plastic parts for 3C products – The laser welding of transparent white plastic parts by using lasers with higher wavelengths – 1710nm diode lasers and 2000nm diode lasers – has led to the development in various sectors of the electronics industry. Communication Devices, Computers, and Consumer Electronics are some of the sectors that have received the impetus in manufacturing and development.
The laser welding in the automotive plastic parts is more favourable and is a big plus in the automobile sector because of the reduced cost and weight of the parts. In the automotive industry, the laser welding of plastics has seen exponential growth in the applications such as gas/oil/water tanks, sensors, and decorative parts. Pictures above show the 1710nm diode lasers are used in laser welding of transparent plastic in the automotive industry. The above pictures from left to right are the welded plastic parts used for interior and exterior decoration and the instrument panel.
Laser Spot Welding Machine is an apt tool for precision offering excellent adaptability in welding metals. This versatility of the machine helps the operator to customize and create or repair the metal parts.
What is Laser Welding Process? The Laser welding process binds to form a weld of metals using the laser beam. The laser beam focuses on a precise location and throws concentrated heat energy to create a weld. This process is extensively used in the case of high-volume production. Butt Weld, Filler Lap Weld, Overlap Weld, and Edge Flange Weld are 4 major weld joints capable of a laser weld.
Why use Laser Welding Machine? Laser Welding welds dissimilar, complex joints which would not have been possible using conventional welding techniques. Laser Welding has huge applications in developing luxury products such as bespoke jewellery as usage of less heat and hence minimum distortion in components.
Laser Welding can be used to target inaccessible places – it is more accurate and superior aesthetic finishing as compared to conventional welding, hence it can be used to manufacture fine components and also to reach and weld complex and intricate areas.
Due to various significant applications of Laser processing, Laser Welding is used on a larger scale to develop products with more productivity and at the same time helps in reducing the cost of production.
Laser Welding has several advantages in comparison with other welding techniques, some of them are –
- Using a CAD/CAM setup welding process is easily automated saving time without compromising on precision. The precision of Laser welding is excellent which is not the traditional welding.
- As in arc welding, no electrode is used in the laser welding process, which eliminates the issue of the brittleness of metal which may happen if the electrode used has traces of moisture.
Another significant virtue of the Laser Welding Machine is low contamination as metals to be welded is the only required material in this process and if metals used are cleaned from oil and dirt prior to the welding process there is zero chance of pollution in the operating room, due to non-usage of any filler. Hence, Laser Welding is appropriate for medical devices wherein hygiene and precision take precedence over everything else.
Due to its high precision, Laser Welding Machine is used to weld even the tiniest of parts to bind together without any damage or any adverse effect. Hence, it is evident that Laser Processing has numerous applications in automotive, aerospace, and medical fields.
